The Elder Scrolls Online Announces a Sunken Treasure Hunt for High Seas of Tamriel
Running from September 28 to October 14, the event pairs a daily fight against Maormer raiders with a Dwemer dive for sunken treasure.

The Elder Scrolls Online’s High Seas of Tamriel event runs from September 28 through October 14, pairing a daily fight against Maormer raiders with a dive for sunken treasure. It also serves as Season One’s final free content drop, with details outlined in Xbox Wire’s September 30 announcement.
High Seas of Tamriel had already appeared on ESO’s public test server in August. An August 4 hotfix resolved access issues that had kept players from entering the event there.
The event is also designed as a broader experiment with ESO’s usual event format. In an interview with PCGamesN, ESO Loremaster Michael Zenke described its short narrative opening and instanced mission as something like a small, mostly solo delve with the cinematic finish of a longer quest. Game Director Nick Giacomini said High Seas is ESO’s first event built as its own destination and activity loop, rather than an event that simply rewards players for activities elsewhere in the world.
Shipboard combat starts the daily quest
Players begin on the deck of a ship already underway as Maormer sea elves from the Lice Whisperer pirate cult attack. There is no ship steering or cannon operation. Instead, players use ESO’s regular combat while stepping away from the main fight to keep their own vessel afloat and working to sink the attackers’ ship or drive them away.

Once the sea elves are defeated or driven off, the quest moves underwater. Players enter an ancient Dwemer diving chamber whose enchantments let them explore the seafloor, fight undersea bosses, and search for treasure. A salt-encrusted, gold-adorned skeleton holds the prize on the ocean floor. Players return it to the mainland for a reward, and the quest can be repeated each day while the event is active.

Alongside combat, experience, and loot, the daily run brings lesser-known nautical lore to the foreground. Its story touches on undersea Dwemer constructs and the Maormer, as well as the All Flags Navy, an ancient alliance of Tamriel’s cultures that joined forces against the Sload when they threatened the continent.
