The Elder Scrolls 6 to Retain Skyrim’s Leveling System, Says Former Bethesda Design Director

The development of Bethesda Game Studios’ next big project, The Elder Scrolls 6, is making slow but steady progress. While the studio continues to support its upcoming title, Starfield, fans of The Elder Scrolls series received some fresh information about the sixth installment.

In a recent conversation with Minmaxx, Bruce Nesmith, a design director at Bethesda who left the company last year, it was revealed that The Elder Scrolls 6 would keep the same leveling mechanics as its predecessor, Skyrim.

In Skyrim, the leveling system operates on the principle of “practice makes perfect.” The more you use a specific skill, the better you become at it, ultimately helping you level up. This system has been quite popular among fans for its realistic approach to skill development. According to Nesmith, this feature is “absolutely going to continue” in The Elder Scrolls 6.

Nesmith stated, “The whole, ‘You do it to get better at it’… while that was not my unique idea, I had a large hand in that. A lot of the concepts dealing with how you level and things like that, there will be a bunch of new ideas thrown in, but I’m betting some of the stuff that I worked on will still survive to the new one.”

While Nesmith shared that the leveling system would be carried over, he also hinted at the possibility of new concepts and ideas being added. This could provide fans with a mix of the familiar and the new, keeping the game engaging while still offering a sense of continuity.

Interestingly, there is still a cloud of mystery surrounding other elements of The Elder Scrolls 6. Microsoft has yet to confirm if the game will be exclusive to its platforms, and the release date remains unknown, though some speculate it could be as far away as five years.
