The Alters from 11 bit studios just received its first significant update, addressing a wide range of bugs and performance issues. If you’ve been enjoying this sci-fi survival adventure with base-building elements, this patch will likely smooth out some rough edges you might have encountered.
The game runs on Unreal Engine 5 and has been well-received on Steam, boasting very positive reviews. Patch 1.1.0 includes more than 73 fixes, which cover everything from tutorial video lengths to collision problems during planetary exploration.
One key improvement is that resources will no longer be unnecessarily reserved when no production is active, which should help with resource management. The heads-up display (HUD) will now scale correctly according to your settings, a minor but essential tweak for player comfort.
Stability has also been a focus. The update fixes crashes that could occur while climbing or fast traveling, plus it resolves a Steam Deck-specific crash when starting the next chapter. If you’ve been playing on PC or Steam Deck, these fixes should make your experience a bit more seamless.
Performance optimizations are included too, although the developers haven’t detailed them. I’ve previously noted that The Alters already performed well on a variety of PC setups at launch, except for some issues with anti-aliasing and the upscaler.
Gameplay logic related to rebellion has been adjusted, affecting new playthroughs and load games from recent saves. Localization fixes and various tweaks are also part of this update.
