Tencent Games is buying Sumo Digital for $1.27 Billion

Tencent Games will acquire Sumo Digital for a whopping $.127 billion. As spotted by Reuters, the British video game company, Sumo Digital, will settle in the rows of Tencent for a hefty deal. The purchase comes after Tencent’s failure to merge both Chinese streaming services Huya and DouYu into one due to denial by China’s market regulator.

Buying Sumo Digital would definitely expand Tencent Games’ catalog, considering Sumo Digital’s racing and snooker games. Sumo Digital’s non-executive chairman has come out publicly stating that “The Board of Sumo firmly believes the business will benefit from Tecent’s broad video game ecosystem, proven industry expertise, and its strategic resources.”

Tencent Games is definitely on a streak of smart moves, which confirms its titan form. Recently, the company has bought small stakes in numerous video game studios during the last year, and it’s definitely far away from stopping. It’s unreal how big the company has become and will most definitely continue walking the same path in the future, assessing a much stronger presence worldwide.

Carl Cavers, Sumo Digital’s CEO, will attain his position at the company. He also stated, “having the opportunity to work with Tencent is one that we couldn’t miss.” How Sumo Digital would deal with the acquisition and what sort of impact this would have on upcoming game titles remains unknown.
