Team Cherry announced on December 15, 2025 that Hollow Knight: Silksong will receive a free DLC titled Sea of Sorrow, scheduled to release in 2026. The studio said the expansion is nautically themed and will add new areas, additional bosses, and fresh tools for Hornet. Team Cherry published a short teaser and provided only glimpses of the new content, keeping most details for later.
Silksong has performed strongly since launch, with Team Cherry reporting over seven million copies sold and millions of players accessing the game through Xbox Game Pass. The launch briefly overloaded several storefronts as demand spiked. Team Cherry has discussed post-launch plans in recent interviews and teasers, the studio previously hinted at more content and the possible return of older characters in a post-launch plan, as covered in early DLC teases about those plans and a returning hunter.
Team Cherry shared a teaser trailer with the announcement:
The studio also confirmed work on an enhanced edition of the original Hollow Knight for Nintendo Switch 2. Existing Nintendo Switch owners will receive that Switch 2 edition as a free upgrade when it launches in 2026. Across platforms, Team Cherry plans free updates for the original game and has opened public beta branches for PC players on Steam and GOG, which include support for 16:10 and 21:9 aspect ratios.
Team Cherry said it will take a holiday break before returning to development work for a larger slate of updates and releases in 2026. Follow Console & PC Gaming for updates on Silksong and Sea of Sorrow on X, Bluesky, YouTube, and Instagram for follow-ups and coverage of future updates.
