Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, 2K and Parent Division has announced lay-offs of approximately 5% of its entire workforce. This will result in the cancellation of multiple games, but also ongoing projects.
It seems that the gaming industry is plagued, and these types of layoffs are nothing weird, because recently there have been plenty of them surrounding a diverse selection of major companies such as Take-Two.
Recently, Take-Two increased the prices for GTA+, which could be related to a shortage of income. As of March 31, 2023, Take-Two had around 11,000 employees, which could mean that around 500 employees will be without work. While it’s sad to see this, most companies have already dealt with layoffs.
So I only have 1 question. Are we going to ignore the fact that powerful AI technology isn’t the culprit for all these layoffs? Think twice. Either way, since project cancellations are mentioned, I doubt that GTA will be impacted in any way.
