Tails of Iron 2’s Free Blood & Brine Expansion Brings Fishing to PS5 and PS4

The post-game adventure adds 11 quests, 10 bosses, nine armor sets, and 32 aquatic creatures to Hardshell Brook on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.

Tails of Iron 2: Whiskers of Winter has traded its frozen scenery for saltwater. The free Blood & Brine expansion, the game’s first, is now available on PC through Steam, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One, sending Arlo to the coastal region of Hardshell Brook for a post-game adventure. PlayStation detailed the new content in its launch announcement, while Xbox’s launch announcement confirms the free update for Xbox consoles. PC players can find the release details in the official Steam announcement.

The expansion adds 11 quests, 10 new bosses, nine armor sets, fresh music, and a fishing system built around 32 aquatic creatures. Players must finish the main campaign before Arlo can leave the frozen North and set sail for the new area.

Hardshell Brook opens after the main campaign

Arlo’s first task involves two shipwrecked sailors, Jaimie and Sam, who are trying to rebuild their vessel. Their plan is to create an aquarium filled with rare sea life, attract visitors, and earn enough money to repair the ship.

That project gives the expansion a quieter rhythm between fights. Fishing spots around Hardshell Brook let Arlo search for all 32 creatures, gradually filling the aquarium with increasingly strange finds. The region also brings new characters and a mystery surrounding what happened to Jaimie and Sam at sea.

New bosses and battles on the water

The coast may be warmer than the Wastes, but it is not any safer. Arlo will face new enemies both on land and beneath the waves, with 10 boss encounters built around different attack patterns and environmental hazards.

Blood & Brine also introduces ship arena battles. Fights can move from the harbor and fishing spots onto the open water, where Arlo must defend his vessel against creatures that would rather make a meal of him than end up in an aquarium. The expansion’s nine new armor sets provide more ways to prepare for those encounters.

Indie-inspired armor joins Arlo’s collection

The new gear includes crossover armor inspired by Blasphemous, Cult of the Lamb, Dave the Diver, Death’s Door, Moonlighter, and Beyond Galaxyland. Each design was redrawn to fit Arlo and the hand-drawn medieval world of the Ratdom, turning familiar indie influences into battle gear for one very determined rat.

Players who still need the base game can also find Tails of Iron 2: Whiskers of Winter at 60% off on PS5 and PS4 from August 12 through August 26 as part of PlayStation’s Ready, Set, Play promotion.
