Stellar Blade is making a strong presence on Steam, standing out among PlayStation ports with its substantial player numbers. This is interesting because its success might not only be due to the infamous nude mods but also to the game’s solid performance and appeal.
It’s cool how more PlayStation games have landed on PC lately, giving me a backlog that keeps growing—looking at you, Horizon Zero Dawn. However, not all these ports have set Steam’s charts ablaze, sometimes due to barely noticeable marketing. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, for example, quietly launched on PC in January and peaked at only 28,189 concurrent players, which is kinda surprising.
Meanwhile, Stellar Blade climbed to the top of Steam’s global top sellers list and reached a peak of 183,380 concurrent players. Among PS5 ports, only Helldivers 2 beat it with 458,709 players at release, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut trails behind at 77,154 concurrents.
Just to put things in perspective, Stellar Blade has outperformed some big names on Steam like God of War (73,529), Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered (66,436), and The Last of Us Part 1 (36,496). Especially compared to The Last of Us Part 1, Stellar Blade’s port feels smoother and looks sharp, running without hiccups even during intense action moments. I tested the demo myself and, honestly, it was pretty impressive. You’ll want a controller though, because the gameplay style really calls for it.
If you haven’t heard much about it, Stellar Blade is a third-person hack-and-slash game where timing parries and dodges is key. It mixes open areas with on-rails sequences and throws in a sci-fi anime-inspired story that’s every trope mashed together. Think of it as a simpler, more fanservice-heavy take on Nier Automata.
The PC version has many features like ultrawide support, DLSS 4, FSR 3, unlocked framerates, and more. But here’s the twist—there’s a thriving mod scene already. Mods adding nudity, risqué outfits, and even explicit menu backgrounds popped up on Nexus Mods quickly after release. The game’s protagonist Eve is already designed with fanservice in mind, but modders have taken it even further.
