Stellar Blade has been making waves since its PC release on June 11, 2025, setting records for player numbers and sales speed compared to its PlayStation 5 debut. The modding community has contributed to the game’s talk, but the director has shared cautious thoughts about mods versus official content.
Kim Hyung Tae, the director of Stellar Blade, recently spoke about the modding scene in an interview with This is Game, which Genki_JPN shared on X. While he recognizes that mods play a positive role in broadening the gameplay experience, he believes the current “firepower” from modders is still lacking. He emphasized that official content remains superior at this stage.
The director notes that the modding space is vast and unpredictable, especially since no official tools are available. This limitation makes it difficult to modify the whole game. He appreciates mods that add new costumes or monster visuals, but hopes to see mods that genuinely expand how players engage with the game. That’s quite a high bar for modders, and I wonder what kind of mods might meet that mark eventually…
Besides the modding discussion, Kim Hyung Tae showed the sequel’s progress. It’s currently in research and development, with hopes to launch in 2027. Work initially planned for a DLC shifted toward the sequel’s development. The team’s focus on the PC port delayed further sequel progress, which makes sense but might test the patience of eager fans.
Yikes, managing all these moving parts can’t be easy. Still, seeing the director balancing official content, modding potential, and future projects with such care is interesting.
