Steam September 2025 client update adds accessibility options but causes glitches

Valve's September 2025 Steam client adds accessibility menu but some users report a resizing bug

In September 2025, Valve released a Steam client update that fixes many desktop bugs and adds a long-awaited accessibility menu. The update introduces desktop controls such as high contrast mode, reduced motion, and UI scale, but several users now report the desktop app randomly expanding its window to the right.

The update introduces a comprehensive accessibility settings menu to desktop mode, featuring a dedicated high-contrast toggle, reduced motion, and granular UI scale controls designed to assist players with visual or motion sensitivities. Accessibility annotations were added to many UI elements, though some still appear unannotated. Those controls let players tailor the Steam desktop app to their needs. The changes are aimed at making Steam itself easier to use while running a wide range of games.

Several players have reported the desktop client randomly resizing and pulling its right border outward. One forum user suggested unplugging peripherals, while another kept Steam maximized or used big picture while windowed. A user uploaded a video of the issue and blamed WindowBlinds 11 for conflicting with the patch.

Valve’s notes list nearly 100 desktop fixes and about 50 Steam Deck fixes, but that wide sweep appears to have triggered a window-resizing fault for a small set of setups. The official release notes are available on the Steam news page and list the full set of fixes and changes. At present it’s unclear which exact combination of settings or third-party tools causes the problem, so only a minority of users report it. Most players seem unaffected, though the behavior is visible enough in shared clips to draw attention.
