Steam just got a big Warhammer throwback pack, and seven of the games are new to the store

Warhammer Classics launched with more than 20 old-school Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 games, plus a Steam sale running through April 20.

SNEG and Games Workshop have launched Warhammer Classics, a new Steam label that brings more than 20 classic Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 games into one place. Seven of those games are on Steam for the first time, while the rest have returned to the store in updated form.

The launch line-up includes a mix of fantasy and 40K releases, from Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate and Warhammer 40,000: Fire Warrior to Dawn of War – Anniversary Edition and Warhammer: Dark Omen. SNEG said the goal is to offer the games in a form that runs cleanly on modern hardware and operating systems rather than just dropping old builds onto Steam.

The 1998 strategy game Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate has received the most visible polish in the batch. According to the launch details, it now runs more smoothly on modern Windows systems, includes improved stability and compatibility, adds widescreen combat resolutions and 16:9 HUD support, adjusts audio, and brings in Steam achievements.

Warhammer Classics also launched with a trailer on YouTube:

The full Steam list spans a long stretch of the franchise’s PC history. The Steam debuts in this wave are Warhammer 40,000: Fire Warrior, Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate, Warhammer: Mark of Chaos – Gold Edition, Warhammer 40,000: Rites of War, Warhammer: Shadow of the Horned Rat, Final Liberation: Warhammer Epic 40,000, and Warhammer: Dark Omen. The lineup also includes Talisman: Horus Heresy, Warhammer 40,000: Sanctus Reach, Space Hulk, Space Hulk: Ascension, Legacy of Dorn: Herald of Oblivion, Warhammer Quest 2: The End Times, Warhammer Underworlds – Shadespire Edition, Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon, Battlefleet Gothic: Armada, Man O’ War: Corsair – Warhammer Naval Battles, Blood Bowl: Chaos Edition, Dawn of War 2 – Anniversary Edition, Blood Bowl 2: Legendary Edition, Space Hulk : Tactics, and Dawn of War – Anniversary Edition.

There are a few other entries in the label that do not carry a Warhammer or 40K rating in the list, including Talisman: Digital Classic Edition (4th Edition), Talisman: Origins, Chainsaw Warrior, Chainsaw Warrior: Lords of Night, and Dark Future: Blood Red States.

As part of the launch, Steam is also running a sale on the label, with most titles discounted by 20% to 90% through April 20.

If you are a Warhammer PC fan, this is one of the bigger preservation pushes the franchise has seen on Steam in years. Share your thoughts in the comments, and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, Instagram.

Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate

Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate

As a turn-based strategy with RPG elements, the game offers you the ability to fully customise your army between missions and augment your forces to ensure strategic superiority. With the might of a Space Marine company at your disposal, you can fully customise your squads down to the last marine, ensuring that only the Emperor's finest are entering the fray. But be warned, for any suffered losses are not recovered between missions, so you must carefully decide which missions are worthy of your efforts.
As SSI's second entry in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, Chaos Gate marries the lore of the 40,000 universe with the strategic depth of an SSI game and creates an engaging experience that further glorifies the Emperor and the Adeptus Astartes' Legacy.
