Bethesda Game Studios signaled that an update was coming for Starfield, and a retailer listing has pushed a possible PlayStation launch date into the spotlight. The studio’s official message on X included a line saying, “We ran this by Todd and he said his only visionary power is seeing running lanes in EA College Football 26. He appreciates all the passionate feedback on Starfield, and we’ll have more to share next week.”

Shortly afterward a Portuguese retailer began taking pre-orders for a PS5 version of Starfield, listing an April 7, 2026 release date. That retailer listing was shared on X, though it’s not clear whether the shop has official confirmation from the publisher or is reacting to circulating rumours.

Starfield launched as an Xbox-focused title after Microsoft acquired Bethesda, but the prospect of a PlayStation edition has returned to conversations in recent weeks. Director Todd Howard has previously warned that a new PS5 port and update would not fundamentally change the core game for players who disliked the original release, while reports point to the PS5 version arriving alongside a significant update and a second expansion.
This follows other recent indications of PlayStation support for major multiplatform projects, as you can see our coverage of the Black Myth: Zhong Kui trailer and its PlayStation labeling for context on how platform hints sometimes surface ahead of formal announcements. For now the situation remains unconfirmed. Bethesda’s X post promises more information next week, and the retailer listing has given an explicit date to watch: April 7, 2026. Expect an official announcement to clear up whether that date is accurate and whether the PS5 release will include the promised update and expansion.
