The galaxy far, far away is facing a bit of turbulence as Zynga has revealed plans to shut down Star Wars: Hunters, merely nine months after its launch. The free-to-play PvP arena combat game hit the shelves on June 4, 2024, across platforms like Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android. Set between the events of Star Wars Episode 6 and 7, it seemed poised for success but ultimately fell short.
The critical reception was lukewarm at best, with the Nintendo Switch version earning a rather unimpressive score of 57 on Metacritic. Players didn’t flock to Vespaara as hoped. With this underwhelming performance, Zynga has announced that the final content update will roll out on April 15, followed by a complete server shutdown scheduled for October 1.
Zynga’s statement expressed gratitude to players: “Thank you for your interesting support and for being part of the world of Vespaara. After careful consideration, we want to let you know that the final content update for Star Wars: Hunters on all platforms will be on April 15.” They also reassured fans about keeping them informed during this transition period.
We thank all of our Hunters for joining us on Vespaara. For more information, please visit our blog post and FAQ. #StarWarsHunters

A key detail in their announcement is that in-app purchases will cease on April 15. This decision leads Zynga to explain why there won’t be refunds issued for season passes or any purchased currency. In response to player inquiries about refunds for Arena Passes from Season Five, they noted that providing a month’s notice allows players time to maximize their use before servers go offline.
The fate of Crystals, the premium currency bought with real money, was similarly addressed. Players should not expect refunds here either; instead, they are encouraged to spend what they’ve acquired prior to closure.
Star Wars: Hunters initially soft-launched in late 2021 across select regions, including India and Australia, but faced numerous delays leading up to its full release last summer. It’s unfortunate that potential fades so quickly in an industry where every new title aims high yet sometimes falls flat.
