Star Wars Galaxies Restoration‘s A New Dawn update is scheduled to arrive Oct. 24, bringing DirectX 12 support and changes to Kashyyyk, professions, mounts, and player housing.
A New Dawn draws on ideas from across the expanded Restoration team, which added 13 members and invited them to work on parts of Galaxies they cared about. The result spans several parts of the MMO rather than focusing on a single new feature.
The client upgrade adds DirectX 12 support alongside volumetric fog, clouds and atmospheric effects, a new water shader, and improved terrain distances. Players will also be able to use DLSS, FSR, and XeSS upscaling.
Kashyyyk, the Wookiee homeworld and setting of the 2005 expansion Revenge of the Wookiees, gets new and revamped instances and a rebalance of its earlier content. Scout and Ranger professions gain new traps, advanced creature tracking, and expanded camp features, including a new prestige system.
Pets and mounts get more attention too. Mounted combat will support both melee and ranged attacks, while creature taming becomes more interactive. Player cities can reach a higher tier, the Doctor profession gets a less passive role, and a drag-and-drop furniture interface replaces coordinate adjustments when arranging a home.
Star Wars Galaxies Restoration is free to play, with the client available through the project’s download page.
