Big news for anyone eager to customize Stalker 2: GSC Game World has released the first phase of their modding tools, called the Stalker 2 Zone Kit. But heads up, if you want to mess with the Zone, you’ll need a massive chunk of hard drive space. Like, 700 GB is massive.
The toolkit lets players modify existing content or create new stuff like animations, weapons, and game mechanics. Sounds great, right? I was pumped, too, until I saw the system requirements on Epic’s store page. They list a staggering 700 GB of free space needed. When I actually tried to install it, the download was about 471 GB, unpacking to around 659 GB. It’s still huge, but a bit less terrifying.
For some perspective, Stalker 2 itself takes up about 160 GB on your PC. Other mod kits? Way smaller. Starfield’s Creation Kit is just 20 GB, over 30 times smaller. Baldur’s Gate 3’s toolkit clocks in at 150 GB; even Frostpunk 2’s FrostKit is only about 100 GB. So yeah, Stalker 2’s mod tools are in a league of their size-wise.
Why so big? They’re packed with uncompressed assets, but I’ve contacted GSC Game World to get the scoop and will update if I hear back. I’ve scheduled my download for sometime in 2026 because… yikes, that’s a lot of data to handle.
Despite the size, I’m genuinely stoked to see Stalker 2 getting more love and proper modding support. According to a GSC community rep on Reddit, this Zone Kit is just “Phase 1.” They plan to add more features and tools in future phases so that the modding possibilities could grow even bigger. At this rate, maybe investing in a NAS isn’t such a bad idea!
What do you think about the size of this modding kit? Are you ready to clear out your drive for some Zone crafting, or is 700 GB a hard no? Drop your thoughts below—I’m curious if anyone’s actually downloading this beast anytime soon!
