Stalker 2 has received a significant update with Patch 1.4, bringing over 700 fixes that tackle some of the game’s more unusual bugs and improve enemy behavior. This patch is especially notable for fixing the strange corpse-eating animation and the odd sausage blood effect while making enemies more tactical in combat.
GSC Game World announced this patch shortly after confirming remasters of the original Stalker trilogy. Patch 1.4 is now available and includes a variety of tweaks that should make the Zone feel more believable and challenging.
Key Fixes and Improvements
- Mutants can now properly use the corpse-eating animation when dead bodies are nearby, adding a creepy but fitting detail to their behavior.
- Fixed the strange issue where shooting at sausage props produced blood particles, a quirky bug that had some players scratching their heads.
- Enemy AI has been overhauled to use cover more effectively. NPCs now hide before shooting, avoid rushing unnecessarily, and use trees as cover. Flanking and squad coordination have also been improved, making combat encounters feel more tactical.
- Enemies have a finite number of grenades based on their faction and rank, with bandits carrying fewer than soldiers.
- The Burer mutant can now catch and throw grenades telekinetically, adding a new layer of challenge.
- Enemies no longer snipe with shotguns, fixing unrealistic combat behavior.
- Weapon stats in the inventory have been updated with a new “handling” attribute and more accurate stat bars.
Additional AI and Combat Fixes
- Improved mutant combat behavior and fixed issues like mutants hiding improperly or ignoring the player after loading saves.
- Fixed NPC clipping issues, stuck animations, and erratic behaviors during combat and patrols.
- Human characters now communicate tactical actions more clearly and throw grenades strategically rather than on cooldown.
- Close combat difficulty has been increased on Veteran and Stalker modes.
Balance and Performance Updates
- Increased armor piercing for the RPM-74 and boosted RPG damage.
- Explosions now deal more damage to high-ranking targets.
- Decreased lethal distance for grenades but increased concussion distance for RPGs.
- Added silencers to stashes and allowed Khors to upgrade the Zircon Suit.
- Optimizations for lighting, shadows, and grass LODs improve performance in multiple regions.
Bug Fixes and Quest Improvements
- Fixed numerous quest-related bugs, including issues with NPCs not appearing, stuck objectives, and progression blockers across many missions.
- Resolved problems with player getting stuck behind doors or in geometry.
- Improved facial animations, sound effects, and added new death animations for various damage types.
These fixes collectively make the world of Stalker 2 feel more polished and believable. The enemy AI improvements alone should make firefights more interesting, while the quirky bug fixes like the sausage blood add a touch of relief for players who noticed those oddities.
