Stalcraft: X is finally stepping into PvE territory with its first whole Operation called Operation Breach. After years of trial and error, the developers have crafted a mode for three players to tackle co-op challenges in the Exclusion Zone. It matters because it marks a serious attempt to expand beyond the game’s PvP roots, promising fresh gameplay and new rewards.
Development hasn’t been a smooth ride. Early attempts like the Mausoleum dungeon and Daily Operations were either buggy or incomplete, suffering from outdated maps, broken mechanics, and a lack of focus. Operation Misfire tried to fill the gap with a shorter mode but ended up overwhelmed by bugs and shifting priorities. Then came Operation Cryostasis, a linear dungeon with more polish and distinct enemy abilities, but it still didn’t quite hit the mark during testing.
So what was the main hangup? The team admits they lacked the right tools and experience to create PvE content that felt rewarding and fun. Most of Stalcraft’s history focused on PvP, and PvE presented a whole new set of challenges. Instead of rushing, they started fresh with a dedicated team and clear goals.
Operation Breach Details
Operation Breach invites you and two others to look at the eerie ghost town of Lyubech-3. The mode combines classic dungeon elements with distinct twists:
- Point capture objectives with a “hot potato” mechanic involving charged anomalous batteries that must be passed between players to avoid losing charge.
- Unusual enemies with special abilities, backed by improved AI that makes fights more dynamic and challenging.
- A final boss called the Rat hunter, who commands swarms of rats and shifts through multiple attack phases.
Players are assigned one of three classes based on their suit, each with distinct active and passive abilities:
- Assault: Tank role focused on soaking damage and protecting teammates.
- Support: Healer role to assist and keep the team alive.
- Operative: Damage dealer with stealth and high burst damage.
While roles are classic tank, healer, and DPS, each class can dish out damage in their own way, so it’s not a strict division but more of a gameplay focus.
The map style is inspired by Lyubech-3’s abandoned districts, filled with detailed environments that hint at the mysterious Murmur faction’s daily life. Players will experience a mix of exploration and combat, with plenty of chances to coordinate and support each other.
Access and Rewards
Access to Operation Breach requires reaching the Pervomayskiy Factory Bar and completing an introductory quest. Success in runs boosts your Access level, which ramps up difficulty by increasing enemy health, damage, and adding gameplay modifiers that rotate weekly. Difficulty can scale almost endlessly until players hit their limit.
Rewards come immediately after runs and as weekly bonuses based on your highest Access level that week. The more you play, the more options you get to pick your rewards.
Modules: The New Endgame Reward
Operation Breach introduces Modules, a fresh type of weapon attachment usable only on +15 upgraded weapons. Modules tweak weapon stats or add new mechanics, come in different quality tiers, and feature randomized parameters across three categories. Unlike artifacts, they don’t need upgrades, offering a new layer of progression that the developers plan to expand over time.
Open Test Server and What’s Next
Players worldwide will get their hands on Operation Breach through an Open Test Server launching this August. It’s an opportunity to spot bugs, balance gameplay, and polish the mode before official release. The devs promise to keep refining the Operation based on player feedback and won’t stop until it feels right.
After Operation Breach settles in, more PvE content is planned, including new dungeons and surprises. It’s a new chapter for Stalcraft: X, moving beyond its PvP roots to offer something fresh for fans.
