Big news for Final Fantasy fans and Nintendo lovers! Square Enix has officially confirmed that the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. Director Naoki Hamaguchi shared his excitement about the new console’s capabilities and what it means for the series during the latest Creator’s Voice video.
Hamaguchi revealed that when he first saw the Switch 2, he was “very intrigued” by its improvements over the original Switch. The upgraded technical specs allow players to enjoy games in both handheld and TV modes with better performance. He felt confident the Switch 2 would have “enough power to run the FINAL FANTASY VII remake series,” which convinced him to get involved with the project.
One of the coolest parts is that the team can now “recreate Midgar with full specs,” promising a visually richer experience on the new console.
Hamaguchi also expressed his hopes for a “strong partnership between Nintendo and the Final Fantasy brand,” encouraging fans to look forward to the trilogy’s release on the Switch 2.
Interestingly, this is Hamaguchi’s first time developing a game for a Nintendo system after over 20 years in the industry. He’s excited about how players can enjoy Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade on the Switch 2, like chatting with friends in handheld mode or using GameChat to share gameplay in real time.
He also mentioned the connection between generations, noting that since Cloud and Sephiroth are already playable in Super Smash Bros., the Switch 2 release could help fans from different eras bond over these iconic characters.
