1047 Games released Update 2.2 for Splitgate 2, introducing a new 24-player Arena Royale mode alongside multiple weapon timing changes, two new Arena maps, Map Creator fixes, and a host of performance and bug fixes. Arena Royale mixes arena combat and battle royale rules. Matches support respawns but a team is eliminated if every member dies at once. Respawn timers shift based on combat: kills shorten timers and deaths lengthen them, and timers also grow as a match progresses. Each match lets players vote for one of four biomes to play in: Outskirts, Glacier, Drought, or Fracture.
The mode adds proximity chat, upgrades that can be purchased from inventory using credits, and recurring arena events. Each round spawns one of three events (Firecracker, Hotzone, Splitball), winning an event grants a large credit payout to the whole team. Several mechanics from the original battle royale return with changes, including revived players spawning with their selected loadout, team-wide credit gains from kills, automatic opening of chests and airdrops, persistent armor and portal gun upgrades, staged circle closure, and disabled respawn timers in the final match moments while teammates can still be revived if opportunity arises.
Weapon balance in 2.2 alters timing and damage across many guns. Multiple burst pistols, burst rifles, carbines, and LMGs receive faster shot or burst timing. Several burst pistols and rifles were slowed, one carbine had its rate reduced, and a pair of SMGs saw damage or firing-rate reductions. Maps and biomes were expanded. Two new Arena maps were added: Trihard and Runway. Runway will join playlists starting on January 29th. The Outskirts biome was added to Arena Royale, and Inferno, Sanctum, Glacier, Outskirts, Drought, and Fracture are now available for play in onslaught custom games.
Map Creator received fixes and extra customization for item pads, including an Xbox texture corruption fix and a sun position save fix. Performance work covers general improvements, changes to indirect shadow rendering for small objects, more streaming room for virtual textures on low/medium settings, and numerous skin fixes that were harming performance. Arena Royale specifically gets large framerate and streaming improvements by loading only one biome per match and using optimized geometry for biomes.
General fixes address voice chat visibility and hearing issues, progression UI showing unlocked items as locked, incorrect first-person visuals appearing in third-person, and awarding of the Banana Split medal on portal kills.
