Splitgate 2 players, better prepare because the developers just dropped a huge update about the game’s future. After nearly a decade of work, starting from a dorm room, the team behind Splitgate 2 is hitting the brakes hard. They’ve admitted rushing the launch and not delivering the experience fans fell for in the original game. Now, they’re going back to beta to fix things properly.
It’s rare to see devs own up so openly to mistakes, but here we are. They said, “we launched too early” and that some features were rushed with boneheaded mistakes. The good news? They’re committed to rebuilding major parts of the game to bring back the classic Splitgate feel, with more portals on maps, simpler monetization, and a focus on the game modes fans actually want.
What’s remarkable is how this translates to significant behind-the-scenes changes. The team is reducing some roles and shifting resources to focus on this overhaul. That’s heartbreaking because these are friends and teammates who helped build what we have today. The devs promise severance and job placement support for those affected and hope to bring some back later.
Additionally, OG Splitgate servers will shut down in a month. It’s a big deal since those servers cost hundreds of thousands to maintain. The team is considering offline or peer-to-peer options, though, so perhaps some way to continue playing the original will remain. When the revamped Splitgate 2 returns, it should finally deliver on the original’s promise.
Meanwhile, Splitgate 2 won’t disappear. Chapter 3 is still being worked on with fixes and high-priority updates. The developers want us all to keep playing and sending feedback because they’re planning to build this game with the community like never before.
Honestly, it’s refreshing to see such transparency and commitment, even if it means a longer wait. They say they love this game and community too much to quit. I don’t blame them – I’ve had my share of portal chaos, and it’s addictive.
What do you think? Are you ready for the return to beta and whatever changes come with it? Will Splitgate 2 bounce back stronger? Let me know in the comments!
