Space Marine 2 has seen a steady flow of community-driven updates, and the Astartes Overhaul mod is one of the most ambitious efforts to date. This mod introduces new classes, weapons, and gameplay features that reshape the campaign and multiplayer experience, making it worth looking for game fans.
The latest update, version 7.2, brings Terminators into the campaign, offering players a chance to wield the iconic super-sized power armor. The gameplay footage shared by Iron Gaming 40k shows storm bolters delivering heavy firepower and the power fist smashing through enemies with satisfying impact. While the Assault Cannon isn’t in yet, it’s reportedly a high priority for the mod team.
Alongside Terminators, the mod adds Chaplain and Apothecary classes with support skills, new weapons and variants, and fresh models for existing gear. Players can now ground pound and shield bash with any gun, adding more combat options. Battles have grown larger, featuring more enormous enemy swarms, enemies with less health but higher damage, and more intelligent AI allies. NPC allies appear more frequently and include a wider variety, such as named story characters, Imperial Guard squads, and even Dreadnoughts joining operations.
It’s impressive that all these features are available while the game is still evolving. Saber Interactive has blessed the mod and continues to update Space Marine 2, with a recent mid-April patch adding a new mission, boss fight, and weapon. The mod incorporates this content, allowing players to face the new Trygon boss as a squad of Nurgle-themed characters.
The Astartes team is also working on new game modes, including a prop hunt mode and raid-style bosses designed to challenge 12-player squads. Players must run the same version because of the mod’s full multiplayer compatibility. It’s shaping up to offer long-term replay value.
You can download the Astartes Overhaul mod on Nexus Mods. Installation is straightforward: unzip it into your Space Marine 2 directory. The mod limits you to private lobbies, so you can play solo or invite friends running the same version. It won’t affect your save files, and uninstalling the mod restores your progress to its original state.
