Sony may let the PS5 auto-cut their best gameplay moments
A patent filed in 2023 and made public in May 2026 describes software that could spot boss fights, big scores, and other milestone plays.

Sony has a patent filed in 2023 and made public in May 2026 that describes AI software for pulling highlight reels from PS5 gameplay. The filing appears on the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office site at this USPTO filing.
As MP1st noted, the system would watch for moments like boss fights or high scores, then decide which plays deserve to be saved.
The more interesting part is that Sony wants the software to learn how each player performs. A rare double kill might count as a major clip for one player, while it could be ordinary for someone who lands those moments often.
The filing also points to automatic video packages and posters built from gameplay footage and screenshots, which would make sharing those moments easier.
That does not mean this will land on a console any time soon. Patents often stay as paper ideas, and Sony has not said this will ship on PS5 or any other system.
Sony’s patent is still an interesting look at where PlayStation capture tools could go. Share your thoughts in the comments, and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, Instagram.
