Sony is hiring a Senior Director for Digital Games Monetization to lead its global PlayStation Store monetization organization. The job listing names expanding the Targeted Offers program and advancing what it calls “Intelligent Pricing” among the role’s key responsibilities.
Beyond those programs, the director would help set the Store’s monetization strategy and improve the commercial performance of publisher content. The role covers pricing, promotions, experimentation, and commercial optimization, with work across Store, direct-to-consumer, and matrix teams.
The listing also points to future monetization capabilities that could use data, automation, and AI to improve publisher outcomes and Sony’s commercial position. It gives no mechanics for “Intelligent Pricing” and does not say whether Sony plans to expand its earlier targeted-discount test. In that test, selected users received discounts of different sizes, with examples showing deeper discounts rather than price increases. Sony did not explain who qualified or why, and the hiring plan does not confirm that a new pricing system is live.
The Store’s pricing is already part of a wider debate over digital game sales. In August, Stop Killing Games and DoesItPlay? backed a Dutch consumer group’s lawsuit challenging what the groups describe as Sony’s control over digital game sales and pricing. Sony’s plan to end disc-based releases for new PlayStation games in 2028 has also drawn attention to its digital storefront.
