Bungie’s Marathon has been through a rough patch, but Sony just confirmed it’s still planned to launch before the end of their fiscal year on March 31, 2026. This update matters because the game has had delays, a mixed reception, and even plagiarism accusations swirling around it.
During Sony’s recent earnings Q&A, an investor asked about Marathon’s status and whether it might get canceled. Sony’s CFO, Lin Tao, said the game is still on track for release this financial year. He mentioned, “We are now fixing the problems. So we believe this launch will happen. And if this launch is canceled, we need to revise the valuation. However, as of now, this is not expected.” That’s a pretty direct way of saying they’re committed for now.
Marathon’s delay came after its reveal and playtests failed to impress the crowd. Plus, a concept artist accused Bungie of plagiarizing their work, prompting a public response from Bungie. The studio said the community’s feedback was “strong and clear” and that the Alpha test helped them focus the game on survival under pressure, mystery, lore, raid-like endgame challenges, and their signature FPS combat.
They’re using this extra time to sharpen the experience and deepen the connection between the devs and players. Sounds promising, but honestly, will Marathon make a splash if it hits the shelves by March 2026? The skepticism is real, but Bungie seems set on getting something playable and enjoyable out there anyway.
