Sony Aims for Record PS5 Sales in 2023 After Sorting Supply Issues

Isn’t life full of surprises? One moment, you’re frustrated about PlayStation 5 shortages and the next, Sony pulls a fast one. Eric Lempel, the company’s head of business operations, recently gave us the lowdown: 2023 could be a groundbreaking year for the PS5. The game has changed because Sony sorted out its supply chain issues, leading to what’s expected to be a banner sales year.

Flashback to 2020, when the PS5 debuted, finding one was like looking for a needle in a haystack. Now, in a remarkable turnaround, the console will be available everywhere this holiday season. In a recent CNBC interview, Lempel confirmed they’re fully stocked in “every geography.” If you’ve been holding off on buying one, your wait might be over.

It’s not just about the hardware; the software plays a big part too. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is the golden ticket, selling 2.5 million copies in its first 24 hours. Sony has both the console and the games to back it up.

Microsoft has been making moves, notably by acquiring Activision Blizzard. It’s a crowded field, and Sony’s not just standing by. According to Lempel in the same CNBC interview, Sony is actively searching for new developer partners. The interesting part? Sony isn’t just throwing money around; they want meaningful partnerships.

Here’s a neat bit of history: Sony bought Insomniac Games after forming a solid partnership with them. It’s like trying out a pair of shoes before buying; you want to ensure they fit well. Insomniac Games was responsible for the successful Spider-Man franchise, so this approach seems to work for Sony.

Oh, and let’s not forget, a new PS5 model is coming out on November 10th, replacing the current ones. Plus, a bundle featuring Spider-Man 2 is rumored for November 8th. Keep your eyes peeled, this could be a good deal.
