Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will deliver a customization depth that might just leave other kart racers in the dust. SEGA revealed a trailer showcasing the vast array of options that will let you tailor your racing experience in ways rarely seen in the genre.

At the heart of this customization frenzy is the gadgets system. You’ll be able to combine gadgets that reward you for pulling off tricks or hitting opponents, creating a play style that fits you perfectly. There are more than 70 gadgets, and when you factor in vehicle parts that tweak speed, acceleration, and other stats, the total combinations soar past 70,000.

That’s right, over 70,000 possible setups to build your ideal racer. It’s a wild number, and it naturally makes you wonder about balance, but SEGA seems confident the game will hold up competitively.

According to the publisher:

“With over 40+ vehicles, 70+ gadgets, and 100+ vehicle parts and decals, there are thousands of combinations available for players to customize the ultimate racing machine. Players can mix and match racers and vehicles, vehicle parts, and gadgets to create a customized racing experience suited to their gameplay style.”

Besides the mechanical tweaks, there’s a significant amount of aesthetic customization as well. Decals let you personalize your vehicle’s look, and it appears you’ll unlock different horns and boost trails as you play. That adds a neat touch of personality to your rides.

Pre-orders come with the Werehog pack, and if you sign up for a SEGA account, you can grab the Blue Star Extreme Gear, which nods to the PS2 classic Sonic Riders. The game will launch on September 25th for both PS5 and PS4.

With so many customization options, will this be the kart racer to finally nail personal play styles? What’s your take on all these options? Feel free to race to the comments and share your thoughts!
