Sol One will launch in early access on Steam on July 30, putting players in the boots of an astronaut stranded on Mars with one enormous problem: getting home.
The setup may remind fans of The Martian. A deadly storm has left the astronaut alone among wreckage, with limited equipment, a failing pressure suit, and an entire planet standing between them and Earth. The game is not a direct retelling, though. There is no rescue crew waiting to arrive. The astronaut must build a rocket and escape without outside help.
Survival begins with Mars itself. Players will mine iron, copper, silica, ice, and uranium, then process those materials through smelters and fabricators. Those parts can turn a small shelter into a functioning base, while potato crops provide one of the most important sources of food.

The game also adds automation to the usual survival routine. An autonomous rover can scout the surface and haul materials while the player manages construction and production back at the base. That should leave plenty to do beyond simply walking across the red planet with a shovel and a dream.
Weather will affect the work as well. Dust storms can reduce solar-panel output and visibility, forcing players to wait out dangerous conditions or adjust their plans. The developer also describes a sky that changes from rusty daylight to a blue sunset and a star-filled night.
According to the developer’s Steam page for Sol One, the game is aimed at players who enjoy science-driven survival and problem-solving. The early-access launch is scheduled for July 30.
