Janus returns with new abilities and Quickplay Joust debuts alongside various balance changes.

Smite 2

Smite 2 has just released its OB16 update, spotlighting the return of Janus, the God of Portals and Transitions, with fresh tweaks to his abilities. Players can also expect a new Quickplay Joust mode, improvements to quality of life, and a series of balance adjustments across gods and items.

Janus’s kit got some interesting changes that affect how you might play him. His passive now stacks twice, which means his next ability hits harder after passing through portals or thresholds. One of the more curious updates is that his ultimate can be fired while falling from his Portal ability’s banish, letting you set up some plays that might catch enemies off guard. Also, enemies slowed by his Threshold ability become Phased, making them take extra magical damage that ignores some of their protections. It’s a neat way to pressure opponents in team fights.

New travelers have arrived in the Wandering Market. The G.E.B. 1 Traveler offers a mechanical theme with several prism skins and a ward skin, while the Plushie Traveler for Ganesha brings a cute vibe with a full rainbow of prism colors and some emotes. These travelers add some fresh cosmetic options to collect and enjoy.

Quality of life changes include a welcome upgrade for Ultimate Founder’s Edition owners, who will unlock all current and future Ascension Passes forever. Plus, buying travelers, collections, or sagas now grants bonus levels that double Wandering Market coins, which will be applied retroactively. Item buying in Quickplay received a visual update, centering the interface and adding glowing effects to item types, which should make shopping feel smoother. Also, you’ll notice new animations when an enemy god dies, which helps with clarity during intense moments.

Game modes got a fresh addition with Quickplay Joust. It’s designed to be a faster-paced experience, featuring quicker gold and XP gain, default agility relic selection, and draft buy item building. The developers will be testing this as the default mode for new players, which might be a nice way to get into the game without the full Conquest complexity.

Conquest itself saw some changes. The Totem of Ku now takes less damage from gods outside its radius, and its kill reward switched from cooldown rate per kill to a flat cooldown rate and mana regen buff with an immediate cooldown refund. Fire Imps have been reworked with one extra imp spawning and lower health, strength, protections, and rewards. The Fire Giant door will stay open until the Fire Giant spawns at 15 minutes, which could affect early game strategies. The Pyromancer objective now has a health bar, improving visibility during fights.

God balance tweaks are quite extensive. Amaterasu’s Aspect of Valor got a lifesteal buff on Divine Presence. Ares was nerfed slightly with reduced health regen on Call to Arms. Bellona’s Shield Bash no longer gains block stacks from attacking non-god targets, but her Bludgeon spin damage increased. Cerberus and Hades received fixes that improve their abilities’ functionality. Hecate’s Spell Eater does less damage outside Conquest, and Hou Yi’s Aspect of the Mark was nerfed in several ways, affecting basic attack bounces. Hun Batz had some nerfs to his passive and ability scaling. Jing Wei and Medusa were buffed with cooldown reductions and scaling increases. Rama’s Astral Quiver and other skills got stronger, while Zeus’s Thunderclap now grants haste and his Lightning Storm had mixed changes.

Item balance includes buffs to Vampiric Shroud, Gilded Arrow, Bumba’s Spear, Ancient Signet, Bancroft’s Talon, Leviathan’s Hide, Lifebinder, and Transcendence. Some items like Bragi’s Harp, Contagion, Devourer’s Gauntlets, Regrowth Striders, Sanguine Lash, and Sun Beam Bow received nerfs or fixes to adjust their impact or interactions.

Bug fixes addressed issues such as gods being healed or damaged by fountains while flying over them, and Heartwood Charm now works correctly with aspects that change healing abilities.

LIVE NOW – God of Portals and Transitions Update

The OB16 Update warps into SMITE 2 with style as Janus makes his grand return! This portal-popping powerhouse brings his iconic playstyle with powerful changes to his kit. He now stacks his passive twice, ignores magical protections to enemies Phased by Threshold, and his global ult can be fired mid-banish while falling from his Portal to set up some hype plays!
