Silksong’s Gamescom Demo Matches a 2019 Build According to Bloomberg

Jason Schreier says the Silksong Gamescom demo is the same build he played in 2019.

At Gamescom 2025 players queued for hours to play a Hollow Knight Silksong demo that Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier says is the same build he tried in 2019. This matters because fans were impressed by a version of the game that’s six years old, which hints at how much Team Cherry may already have finished.

According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, the first look many people got at Gamescom is the same demo he played in 2019. Schreier mentioned that the slice of the game on the show floor matches the build he tried six years ago.

Silksong’s development has been long and unusual, shifting from Hollow Knight DLC into a full game while Team Cherry took their time and having fun making the project they wanted to make.

The original Hollow Knight has sold over 15 million copies, which has given the developers more room to be patient. Well, that financial cushion helps explain why they could take their time and polish the sequel.

Schreier was talking about his interview on stream with Atrioc when he mentioned the detail, and the stream is available on YouTube at that clip. It’s old.

“At E3 2019, I played it, it was really cool. Hilariously, that demo is the same exact demo they brought to Gamescom this week, so all these people who were waiting in line 3 hours to play this demo, I played it six years ago,” he claimed.

People still lined up for hours to play that version at Gamescom, which is pretty wild considering the build dates back to 2019. What have they really been working on all this time? Hollow Knight Silksong is due to release on September 4, so we’ll learn more when the full game arrives and players can compare trailers and demos to the finished product.
