So, guess what just popped up on the PlayStation store? A total knock-off of Gray Zone Warfare called Gray Zone Attack. Set to release in 2025, this “game” comes from a developer named Esail and is practically a photocopy of the tactical extraction shooter we all know and love that dropped back in April 2024. It’s like someone saw an incredible movie and decided to remake it without permission!
Seriously, the cover art alone screams AI-generated laziness. From the icons down to the colors used? It’s all just a flimsy attempt at capturing that Gray Zone vibe. I can’t help but chuckle at how blatant it is.
But hey, isn’t this just how it goes in our beloved gaming industry? When something becomes a hit, you bet your bottom dollar that copycats will come crawling out of the woodwork. Last year, I had a good laugh covering an absolutely absurd clone called The Last Hope for Nintendo Switch, thinking characters eerily similar to Joel and Ellie fighting zombies while dreaming of brighter tomorrows. That one got pulled faster than you can say “class action lawsuit.”
Now we’ve got Gray Zone Attack, which tries to play itself off as some sort of single-player shooter while its predecessor thrives as a PvEvP FPS. The blurb reads like it’s been ripped straight from MADFINGER’s handbook:
Prepare to enter a hostile and unpredictable world where danger lurks at every turn. In Gray Zone Attack, you’re part of an elite tactical unit sent to uncover the secrets of a devastated quarantine zone. Every decision matters, every bullet counts, and survival is never guaranteed.
“Every decision matters.”
And get this: MADFINGER’s actual tagline for their game is “Every move matters.” The audacity here is seriously mind-blowing!
I mean come on!
MADFINGER’s Rick Lagnese took it to social media with some spicy commentary:
While #GrayZoneWarfare brings players tactical depth and strategic thrills, “Gray Zone Attack” might be a little too busy attacking the idea of originality. We prefer crafting something one-of-a-kind.
This whole situation feels like watching bad reality TV unfold live! The full description for Gray Zone Attack screams “we stole everything!” It mentions immersive open worlds (check!), customizable gear (check!), realistic weapon handling (double-check!) and dynamic injury systems, all features painstakingly crafted over the years by MADFINGER. Honestly it gives me secondhand embarrassment.
I’d bet my favorite controller that this title won’t ever see daylight or will morph into some weird microtransaction hellscape if it does.
