Sea of Thieves Season 17 Sneaks in The Smugglers’ League with Risky, Rewarding Voyages

New Season 17 update adds secretive Smugglers' League and high-stakes delivery runs.

Season 17 of Sea of Thieves has quietly arrived, bringing a fresh faction called The Smugglers’ League. This new group operates from six hidden spots across the game’s dangerous waters, tempting players with helpful loot through risky delivery missions.

These Smugglers’ Route Runs are extraordinary voyages you can pick from the quest map. They offer high-value rewards but come with a catch: everyone taking on the run sails the same path, which is visible on the map. So your ship is a beacon for other pirates looking to ambush you. Talk about nerve-wracking!

If you’re not into sailing these busy routes, there’s a chance to find a message in a bottle near The Devil’s Roar region. These bottles reveal secret Smuggler’s Runs on hidden routes, giving you a better shot at scoring the loot without constant pirate attacks. Clever, right?

Players can also go for rare Smuggler’s shipwrecks that hold more helpful treasures than usual, or take on skeleton ships guarding Smugglers’ League booty. Keep an eye out for black powder barrels during these escapades, they’re explosive and can be sold back for cash bonuses, or you could use them for some other creative purposes. Wonder what kind of chaos you could cause?

Season 17 doesn’t stop there. It bumps the Renown cap by 100 levels and tweaks controller keybinds, cross-region matchmaking, and performance. Plus, The Devil’s Roar volcanoes now have a more predictable eruption cycle, so escaping the fiery blasts might be doable without losing your ship.

Anyway, if you’re up for some tense pirate adventures with a dash of smuggling danger, Season 17 might be your thing. What’s your strategy gonna be? Risk the well-known routes or hunt down those secret runs? I’m Mihaela and stay tuned for more!
