Sam Barlow’s Precognition will mix future visions and sci-fi horror with Brandon Cronenberg

The Half Mermaid game follows Diana, whose experimental brain implant changes the future when she commits her visions to present-day memory.

Sam Barlow and Half Mermaid Productions announced Precognition, a sci-fi horror game being developed with filmmaker Brandon Cronenberg. The project was unveiled during the Kinetic Publishing Showcase on August 12, 2026, and currently has a spring 2028 release window.

Players will take the role of Diana, a woman given an experimental brain implant that shows her possible futures. Those visions are not fixed predictions. When Diana investigates them and commits what she has seen to her present-day memory, the future changes along with her choices.

Her story will move across different decades and timelines, with players piecing together connected narratives and pushing events toward better or worse outcomes. That cause-and-effect structure sits at the center of Precognition. Half Mermaid is once again working with FMV cinematics and non-linear storytelling, but the new game will place more emphasis on investigation, mystery, player freedom, and the consequences that follow each decision.

Barlow brought Cronenberg into the project to help create what he described as an authentic sci-fi horror experience. Cronenberg, the director of Possessor and Infinity Pool, has played Immortality and Her Story, and his work often presents horror through a character’s warped view of reality. That focus makes his partnership with the studio a natural fit for a story built around unstable futures and subjective discovery.

Precognition follows the FMV-driven mystery design associated with Barlow’s earlier games, while giving players more control over how the story develops. The project was previously known as Project C, and its Steam page is already available for wishlisting.
