Claims have emerged regarding the development of a remake for The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, sparking excitement among gaming communities worldwide.
A Reddit user, purportedly a former game development company Virtuos employee, is at the heart of the rumor. They suggested that Virtuos, the studio rumored to be co-developing the anticipated Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, is also working on a reimagined version of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion.
The source of the claim was a post on the popular subreddit GamingLeaksAndRumors, which has since been deleted. Despite this, it caught the attention of gaming media, with outlets such as Xfire reporting on the speculation.
While online rumors must always be taken with a grain of caution, the intriguing part of this tale is that the subreddit’s moderators reportedly verified the Reddit user as a former employee of Virtuos. Should this verification hold, it provides more credence to their statements. However, until official confirmations emerge, it remains speculative.
According to the Reddit user, Virtuos is juggling five separate projects. The Metal Gear Solid 3 remake is the only one confirmed among these.
The leak details that one of the studio’s projects, codenamed “Altar“, is supposedly either a remake or remaster of Oblivion. The user elaborated on a so-called “pairing system,” which will allegedly run the game on the Unreal Engine 5 and the Oblivion engine. This system is set to ensure that while the visuals receive a significant boost from Unreal Engine 5, most of the gameplay mechanics and physics would remain rooted in the original Oblivion engine.
The user also hinted at a possible release window towards the end of 2024 or early 2025. The project timeline may depend on whether the game becomes a remake or a remaster. It was mentioned that most of the development work for this project is taking place in Virtuos’s Paris studio.
