Owlcat has pushed out Rogue Trader update 1.5, and it reaches deep into some of the game’s more extreme builds. The patch reworks archetypes and abilities that could trivialize combat, while also adding new NPC portraits, items, origin reworks, and a batch of stability and narrative fixes.
Several once-dominant moves have been reined in. The Bladedancer archetype’s previously relentless output has been tempered, Death From Above has been substantially reworked, and the Executioner’s Carnival of Misery no longer behaves the same way in every skirmish. Those changes aim to make those archetypes less of an automatic win condition and more of a deliberate option among many.
Players who enjoyed building a character that could clear encounters with minimal input will notice the difference; the adjustments make those combos harder to pull off consistently rather than outright removing the mechanics. That should leave room for a wider variety of builds to contribute in a single playthrough.
The patch text also lists new portraits, new items, and reworks to four origins – Astra Militarum Commander, Ministorum Priest, Commissar, and Navy Officer – plus new talents and convictions for Familiars. Lex Imperialis content received targeted polishing, with dialogue tone fixes and adjustments to NPC banter and narrative consistency.
There are stability fixes aimed at common softlocks, bug fixes for epilogues, localization and audio tweaks, UI and art polish, and a specific fix for the bizarre Yrliet romance bug that could send players to Quetza Temer mid-romance. Details and the complete list of changes are in the official patch announcement on Steam here.
Interest in Rogue Trader picked up around other Warhammer releases earlier this year; that broader uptick helped shine a light on balance issues that might have otherwise flown under the radar.
