Rockstar has launched an official mods shop called Cfx Marketplace, which the company described as for “every server and every player.” The marketplace follows Rockstar’s 2023 acquisition of Cfx.re, the team behind the Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption modding platforms FiveM and RedM.
The move marks a sharp turn from earlier tensions between Rockstar, Take-Two, and the modding scene. In the past the publisher accused FiveM of hosting code that could “facilitate piracy” and banned three of the project’s main creators.
At launch Rockstar says it worked with a curated list of creators to populate the storefront. Some entries are free. Others are paid bundles that can reach several hundred dollars. The Activities bundle lists items such as bowling, billiards, and bungee-jumping and is priced at $467.99. The marketplace homepage is available at marketplace.cfx.re.
Observers are already framing the shop as a proof of concept for how Rockstar might handle creator content and monetization in the next generation of GTA Online. Some commentators point to the popularity of Fortnite and Roblox as competitors that let creators earn from in-game content. Our report on GTA 6s pricing and monetization linked recent commentary that Rockstar will likely favor post-launch monetization, including paid content and services (GTA 6 price report).
The new marketplace will be watched closely by server owners and roleplay communities that already rely on FiveM and RedM for custom content and experiences. For now, the shop lists a mixture of free tools and paid packages from third-party creators Rock-star says it vetted while building the marketplace.
