Respawn Entertainment resolved an authentication token validation issue on January 27, 2026 that caused session interruptions for a small number of Apex Legends accounts. The problem involved how certain authentication tokens were being validated on Respawn’s servers. That validation flaw allowed targeted disruption of active game sessions, which resulted in affected players being disconnected from matches and seeing temporary in-game session interruptions.
Respawn’s security and engineering teams opened an investigation as soon as the issue was identified. Input from an external party helped narrow the root cause, and the developer says the problem was fully resolved within six hours. Respawn added that the fix closed the exploit and prevented any further impact, and that there is no ongoing risk to players.
The company also stated that no account passwords, personal information, or other personally identifiable information (PII) were accessed or exposed at any time. Respawn reiterated that protecting player trust and fair competition remains a priority and welcomed responsible disclosures from community members. The developer said it will continue strengthening validation and monitoring processes and will work constructively with anyone who shares information in good faith.
This follows other stability and bug-fix work earlier in January, including a January 14 stability update that addressed a number of legend and platform issues, like fixes for Crypto and Octane and Switch lighting adjustments, January 14 stability update.
