If you’re planning to revisit Resident Evil 3, there’s a fresh mod that might blow your mind. Modder SonicB00M has unleashed an HD Texture Pack that completely reworks the game’s pre-rendered backgrounds, making the classic survival horror look sharper and more detailed than ever.
Using AI tools combined with thousands of manual tweaks, SonicB00M’s mod delivers backgrounds that pop with clarity. What’s remarkable is that this mod seems to outshine the popular Seamless HD Project (SHDP) in terms of crispness and detail. The modder shared side-by-side comparisons showing how the SHDP backgrounds look softer and sometimes oddly artificial, while the new mod keeps objects like fences looking just right, exactly how they were meant to be.
The mod weighs in at about 1-2GB and works with the GOG version of the game. You can grab it from this link.
For fans of the series, SonicB00M also released similar mods for Resident Evil 1 and Resident Evil 2. So, if you want a consistent visual upgrade across the classics, these mods or the SHDP are solid options.
On a fun note, another mod for Resident Evil 3 lets you play as Nemesis, the terrifying monster stalking Jill. It offers two modes: Original Mode, where you experience the story as Nemesis, and Arrange Mode, where you hunt down S.T.A.R.S. members and mercenaries with different battle dynamics. It’s a fresh way to see Raccoon City through Nemesis’s eyes.
What do you think about this visual overhaul? Would you replay Resident Evil 3 with these upgraded backgrounds? Drop your thoughts in the comments below—I’m curious to hear your take!
