RE:Enhance Version 3.0 is now available for the classic PC version of Resident Evil 2, giving the survival horror game a broad visual pass without changing its original structure. The project comes from modder SonicB00M and focuses on improving the game’s pre-rendered environments and character assets.
The mod uses AI upscaling as a starting point, followed by thousands of manual edits to clean up and rebuild the backgrounds. Version 3.0 adds sharper scenery with more consistent detail, while the character portraits have been adjusted to stay closer to their original appearance.
Several other visual assets have also been updated. Doors and object textures now feature more detail, and the modder has recreated nearly all character and enemy textures from scratch. That gives the classic models a cleaner presentation while keeping the game’s familiar look intact.
Original PlayStation Details Return
RE:Enhance 3.0 also restores details that appeared in the original PlayStation release but were removed from later versions for legal reasons. ChoCha Cola vending machines and advertising banners are included again as part of the update.
SonicB00M has previously compared the project with the Seamless HD Project. The modder claims RE:Enhance produces better results for the pre-rendered backgrounds, and comparison images shared on ModDB show how the two projects differ.
Players can download RE:Enhance 3.0 through its ModDB release page. SonicB00M has also created related RE:Enhance projects for the classic versions of Resident Evil and Resident Evil 3.
If you are planning another trip through Raccoon City, this mod offers a way to make the old backgrounds and models look cleaner while preserving the game’s classic presentation. Tell us what you think of RE:Enhance 3.0 in the comments, and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, and Instagram.
