According to reports from Gamereactor, citing sources close to Rockstar, Red Dead Redemption 2 could be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 as soon as this year. This would add to the growing list of third-party titles like Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077 already rumored for the new console.
While neither Nintendo nor Rockstar has confirmed this, the idea doesn’t sound entirely out of reach, especially after the original Red Dead Redemption launched on the Switch in 2023. Of course, questions about how well the new hardware can handle such a demanding game are bound to pop up. The original Switch wasn’t known for powerhouse performance, so I’m curious how this one might run if the rumors are true.
Now, you might be wondering what this means for PC players. Well, alongside the possible Switch 2 release, Red Dead Redemption 2 is also said to be getting a “current-gen” update on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S around the same time. Details are scarce, but this could hint at a visual refresh or some improvements that might benefit the PC version.
Since the PC release came in 2019, it’s unclear if it will receive any upgrades. However, if Rockstar is working on a facelift for consoles, it wouldn’t be surprising if PC players got some shinier textures or effects, too. I’m hoping the update won’t come with a price tag, though that might be a stretch.
I’m not desperate for changes because Red Dead Redemption 2 still looks fantastic to me. But I’m all ears if a fresh coat of paint is coming. I’ll watch for official announcements closely because riding through Valentine with a bit more polish sounds pretty sweet.
What do you think about Red Dead Redemption 2 possibly arriving on Switch 2 and getting a next-gen upgrade? Would you want to see some improvements on PC, too? Drop your thoughts in the comments below.
