Ready or Not, the tactical SWAT shooter known for its realistic approach, recently faced a wave of negative reviews as players protested changes made to meet console guidelines. Despite this, the game’s player numbers have doubled on Steam, and it currently ranks first on PlayStation’s pre-order list.
Since June 26, concurrent players on Steam have climbed from just under 6,000 to over 17,000, coinciding with a 50% discount during the Steam Summer Sale that dropped the price to $24.99/£22.49, a two-year low. This surge suggests that the review bombing didn’t keep players away for long.
Developers Void Interactive issued statements to calm concerns, assuring fans that only minimal adjustments were made and the creative vision remains intact. Ironically, these clarifications initially stirred more debate, but their impact appears to be temporary.
It’s interesting to consider that Void Interactive might have prioritized expanding into new markets rather than attempting to improve review scores immediately. The fact that the Digital Deluxe Edition leads PlayStation’s pre-order rankings, with the base game also in the top three, points to strong interest ahead of the console launch.
The real test will come after July 15, when the updated version reflecting the new content changes goes live. Some players expect to mod the game to restore original elements, while others feel it’s unfair to rely on mods to maintain the experience they were promised.
However, these changes are pretty mino,r and many players might not even notice them once implemented. Void Interactive maintains that the adjustments are necessary to meet platform requirements without altering the game’s core.
