Ready or Not is stepping out of its PC-exclusive comfort zone and entering the console arena on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 on July 15. This move matters because it opens the doors for a broader audience to play together, but with some caveats you’ll want to be aware of.
The tactical FPS is known for its intense SWAT-style gameplay, which involves hostage rescues and counter-terrorism, a brutal and no-nonsense approach that has earned it a loyal PC fan base. Now, those fans will have new company as console players join the fray. The big question: will you be able to squad up across platforms?
Yes, crossplay will be fully supported between PC and Xbox Series X|S when the game launches, according to a Steam blog post from the developers at VOID Interactive. Players can turn crossplay off if they prefer, but it will be the default setting, allowing friends on different platforms to join matches together.
That said, there are some catches. Console versions won’t have mod support. It’s unclear whether mods on PC will block multiplayer with console players or won’t appear to them at all. Additionally, while PC players can use a mouse and keyboard or controllers, console players will be limited to controllers only; there is no support for mouse and keyboard on consoles. That might ruffle some feathers, but it’s the reality for now.
Still, the launch will coincide with the free Los Suenos Stories update, which introduces new weapons, difficulty options, and reworked maps. It’s a solid chunk of fresh content to welcome both new and returning players.
Unfortunately, cross-progression won’t be part of Ready or Not’s console debut. The official Steam FAQ confirms you’ll need to start fresh if you switch platforms. Hours invested on PC won’t carry over to PlayStation or Xbox, and vice versa.
This decision might sting if you’re hoping to keep your progress intact across systems, but VOID Interactive’s tone in the FAQ suggests they’re not currently planning to add cross-progression later on. Could that change? Maybe. But don’t hold your breath anytime soon.
