Two Nintendo 64 platformers from Ubisoft will arrive in the Nintendo Classics library on Switch Online on December 17: Rayman 2: The Great Escape and Tonic Trouble. Rayman 2 opens with Rayman imprisoned on a ship before escaping to stop Admiral Razorbeard and his army of robot pirates and restore the Glade of Dreams. The game features 1,000 yellow Lums to collect, and gathering them unlocks previously sealed stages in a system similar to musical-note progression in other 3D platformers.
Tonic Trouble follows Ed, an alien janitor whose tossed magic potion lands on Earth and brings ordinary objects to life. Ubisoft described the title as the studio’s first 3D platformer, though delays meant it released around the same time as Rayman 2. Players traverse levels using tools such as a peashooter, diving helmet and pogo stick.
Adding both games raises the number of Nintendo 64 titles available through Switch Online to 42 in the West. Earlier this year the service added Ridge Racer 64, Killer Instinct Gold and Forsaken 64.
NES, SNES, Game Boy and Game Boy Colour games remain available with the standard Switch Online subscription, while Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance and Sega Mega Drive / Genesis titles require the Expansion Pack add-on. Subscription prices listed on the service start at $3.99 / €3.99 / £3.49 for one month, and the Expansion Pack costs $49.99 / €39.99 / £34.99 per year.
The additions follow ongoing Switch-related developments, including reports about Nintendo patents for bringing older handheld libraries to the platform via new features like a second screen; more on that is available in the Nintendo patent report.
