Rainbow Six Siege X is adding a new defender named Denari next season, and his laser tripwires are causing quite a stir. Ubisoft’s fresh take on traps might change how defenders control space, but they come with their quirks and risks.
Denari’s gadget, called T.R.I.P., consists of seven laser emitters that can be placed anywhere and linked into a web, unlike Aruni’s more limited laser gates. This means attackers could find themselves tangled in lasers covering entire rooms, making entry trickier. The catch? These lasers are fragile. They can be shot, destroyed by explosives, hacked, or disabled by EMPs. Losing one emitter could break the whole laser network, so players might think twice before stringing them all together.
The lasers don’t deactivate after being tripped and deal minimal damage, barely noticeable compared to Aruni’s punishing gates. Denari’s traps are more about slowing down attackers than outright stopping them. A clever player might use the lasers to buy time rather than to block an area outright.
Denari’s kit includes:
- Speed: 3, Armor: 1 – a rare speed boost for defenders in Siege.
- Primary weapons: Scorpion EVO SMG and FMG-9 SMG.
- Secondary weapons: Glaive-12 slug shotgun and P226 MK25 pistol.
- Gadgets: Deployable Shield and Observation Blockers.
His primary weapon, the Scorpion EVO, is already a fan favorite. That speed and firepower combo might make Denari a solid roamer, but his secondary gadgets hint at an anchor role too. The Glaive-12 slug shotgun is especially interesting, a new secondary weapon that packs a punch with four shells per reload and can open up angles or clear debris blocking his lasers. It’s kinda like a mini BOSG that fits in your pocket.
Wonder who Denari will replace in regular lineups? Ela might lose some playtime, but her concussion mines hide better and are more disruptive. Melusi or Alibi could be on the chopping block instead, since their traps aren’t as flashy or flexible.
Besides the new operator, three maps, Nighthaven Labs, Lair, and Consulate, are getting visual upgrades with Siege X’s improved lighting and textures. Odd choice since Nighthaven and Lair aren’t popular in Ranked, but Consulate should get some love from fans.
The test server for Operation High Stakes, Siege X’s next season, starts on August 18. Expect the full update to hit early September. Will Denari’s lasers change the meta or just annoy players? Guess we’ll find out soon enough.
