Cross-Play has caused a couple of problems with the current generation of consoles. This may be wholly renovated on the next-gen consoles, as Ubisoft plans regarding that have been revealed. Ubisoft plans to add Rainbow Six Siege to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, kicking off at the exact time of the release of both consoles.
Leroy Athanassof, game director for R6Siege, has claimed that in an interview with Windows Central.
Why I can’t give you a date is because those dates are, in the end, on the people doing the next-gen consoles, Athanassof stated. What I can tell you is that we are going to be on [the consoles] from launch. When they will release the consoles; but it’s up to them to agree that. For Siege, our target is to be available right at launch.
It clearly says that Ubisoft is targeting Rainbow Six Siege to be released together with the release of both consoles. That means a day one action might be available to the owners of the next-gen consoles.
Regarding the Cross-Play feature and will it be available at launch, the creator has stated the following:
Again, this is more a discussion between Microsoft and Sony. We would love to be fully cross-play — have Xbox players matchmaking against the PlayStation players. We are ready to support that. And hopefully, this will happen because as I said, it’s a general move in the industry, and there is nothing that can prevent that. It’s just a matter of time before it happens.
Despite the fact that its current e-sport scene is around the PC platform, the console players may take a step in the near future as well.
