Quake 2 RTX is coming to PC on June 6 offering real-time lighting

The Green Team has just published a video showcasing a new beauty found within an older video game. Quake 2 will receive a complete remaster and include the brand new Ray Tracing technology. That will provide an exceptional look, but also strengthen the gameplay experience for everyone. Quake 2 RTX is coming on June 6, 2019.

It is a remaster, and it is quite devastating to see its first look. Having RTX enabled players can relive the fun within an enhanced experience with proper reflections for the first time. The looks of all the maps will change thanks to the raytraced ambient occlusion. It definitely looks amazing, despite the fact we’re talking about a 1997 release.

To crown the marvelous look, the Green Team has just released a video trailer of Quake 2 RTX. You can watch the trailer below:

The remaster will bring back some of the fans of the original title, with a chance to experience a glimpse of the past within a bolt of realistic real-time lightning and effects. Quake 2 RTX will be available through Nvidia’s official website. It will be available to download on June 6th. However, you would still need to own Quake 2 first, and then just alter the modifications.

The installation included within Quake 2 RTX, will require you to set the path to the official Quake 2 directory before launching.

Below, you can take a look at the Minimum System Requirements to run Quake 2 RTX:

  • OS: Windows 7 64-bit or Ubuntu 16.04 LTS 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel Core i3-3220, or AMD equivalent
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060, or higher
  • Storage: 2GB available space

The reboot of the series will definitely spice some things up, and the Quake 2 RTX files being freely available on GitHub may encourage players to continue the RTX momentum and continue the work on some of the expansions.
