The January 16 report has passed with no sign of a release or announcement for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. The rumour that Ubisoft would quietly launch the PS5 remake on that date is now incorrect.
The original tip, attributed to Tom Henderson, claimed the remake would arrive on 16 January. That claim was circulated widely and raised hopes of a surprise or shadow release. The tip was previously covered in a report that narrowed a mid-January window to the specific date. No statement or patch appeared from French publisher Ubisoft during the day on January 16. Plans may have changed behind the scenes, or the date may have been an internal target that never made it to public release. The lack of a launch means the original rumour was wrong, at least for now.
Speculation that the title might have been re-revealed at The Game Awards had already been ruled out. The remake’s official channels confirmed it would not appear at Geoff Keighley’s show, which removed one obvious window for a reveal. The last few months have also produced a mixture of leaks and fake reports, including an internal footage leak that altered expectations about the remake. Those leaks and their fallout kept interest high, but none of that produced an official release on January 16.
Ubisoft may still be planning a release for early 2026. Given the game’s history and the rebooted development cycle, a launch later in the quarter remains plausible, but there is no confirmation or date at this time. For now the wait continues for official word from Ubisoft on when the remake will actually arrive on PS5.
