Pokémon GO Fest 2026: Mega Finale will bring a fresh batch of battle options, including extra Charged Attacks for Mega-Evolved Pokémon and special Adventure Effects for Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y.
The Pokémon GO team laid out the changes in its official Mega Finale announcement. The first system changes will begin on August 31, while Mewtwo’s new abilities will arrive with its featured Mega Raids on September 5 and September 6.
Super Max Level Pokémon get extra Charged Attacks
Pokémon that can reach Super Max Level will gain an additional Charged Attack while Mega Evolved. The move will be available regardless of the Pokémon’s current Mega Level, although its power will increase as that Mega Level rises.
Pokémon that gain access to Super Max Levels later will receive the same treatment. These extra attacks can be used in the GO Battle League, but they will not be available when battling Pokémon defending a Gym.
Mega Mewtwo X and Y bring different Adventure Effects
During Mega Finale, Mewtwo will learn a different additional Charged Attack depending on its form. Mega Mewtwo X will know Dynamic Punch+, while Mega Mewtwo Y will know Future Sight+.
Learning either move will unlock its matching Adventure Effect. After unlocking the effect, Mewtwo can use it even when it is not Mega Evolved. Activating either effect requires Mega Energy and Candy.
Dynamic Punch+ Adventure Effect increases your Pokémon’s damage against Mega-Evolved Pokémon in Mega Raids and Super Mega Raids. In Super Mega Raids, it also lets Trainers break 2 shields at once instead of 1.
Future Sight+ Adventure Effect reveals whether a Pokémon encountered in the wild will appraise at 3 stars or higher. When the effect is active, a Pokémon with high stats will glow as soon as the encounter begins.
More Mega Pokémon learn special moves
The Mega Evolutions of the Kalos first partner Pokémon will also receive extra Charged Attacks during Mega Finale. Mega Chesnaught will know Seed Bomb+, Mega Delphox will know Mystical Fire+, and Mega Greninja will know Surf+.
The current Super Max Level-eligible group will also receive the following moves:
- Mega Raichu X will know Volt Tackle+.
- Mega Raichu Y will know Zap Cannon+.
- Mega Skarmory will know Drill Peck+.
- Mega Falinks will know Brick Break+.
- Mega Starmie will know Liquidation+.
- Mega Victreebel will know Acid Spray+.
- Mega Malamar will know Psybeam+.
- Mega Dragonite will know Outrage+.
Mega Mewtwo raids arrive on September 5 and 6
Trainers will be able to challenge Mega Mewtwo X in special Mega Raids on Saturday, September 5. Mega Mewtwo Y will take over the featured raids on Sunday, September 6.
Some Pokémon caught from Mega Raids during the event may have a Special Background inspired by Mega Evolution. Trainers can check the Pokémon’s summary page after the catch, then Mega Evolve eligible Pokémon to see the background transform during Mega Evolution.

Mega Ascension starts before the finale weekend
The Mega Ascension lead-in will run from Monday, August 31, at 10:00 a.m. local time through Friday, September 4, at 11:59 p.m. local time. The event will feature wild encounters and Mega Raids built around selected Mega-Evolved Pokémon.
Timed Research will let Trainers choose Chespin, Fennekin, or Froakie. That choice determines which Kalos first partner Pokémon appears as part of the research path and helps provide the resources needed to Mega Evolve it and raise its Mega Level.
GO Pass Deluxe adds Mega Energy and shiny bonuses
After completing the Timed Research, Trainers will be able to upgrade GO Pass: Mega Finale to GO Pass Deluxe. The upgrade will be available from August 31 through September 6 through the Pokémon GO Web Store.
The Deluxe track includes avatar gear, extra rewards, and enough Mega Energy to raise the selected Kalos first partner Pokémon to Super Max Level. It also increases the chance of finding Shiny Pokémon during encounters with the chosen partner from Rank 1, in four-star Mega Raids from Rank 2, and in all wild Pokémon encounters from Rank 70.
How to collect Mega Energy
Defeating a Mega-Evolved Pokémon in a Mega Raid Battle provides the most Mega Energy. Trainers can also occasionally earn Mega Energy by walking with a Buddy Pokémon if they have already Mega Evolved a Pokémon from that Buddy’s evolutionary line.
Pokémon with X and Y Mega Evolutions require separate energy types. For example, Mega Evolving Charizard into Mega Charizard X requires Charizard Mega Energy X. After a Pokémon has Mega Evolved for the first time, future Mega Evolutions can be performed without spending Mega Energy.
A separate GO Battle League change is planned for the near future. The CP of a Mega-Evolved Pokémon will be temporarily reduced when it is selected for a team, allowing Mega Evolutions to participate in Mega Editions of the Great League and Ultra League. The CP will return to its original value after the battle.
