Mimikyu could dominate Pokémon GO’s upcoming Fantasy Cup. PvPoke’s 1,500 CP one-shield simulation gives it wins against 93% of the eligible field. That is a simulated matchup rate, not a live battle win rate. Its results remain high with shields down at 86% and with two shields at 79%.
The projections have prompted a Reddit PvP post calling for Scopely to ban Mimikyu from the cup.
Dear Scopely: Mimikyu NEEDS To Be Banned From Fantasy Cup (A PvP Analysis)

Mimikyu’s typing leaves few safe matchups
Fantasy Cup limits its field to Dragon, Fairy, and Steel types, giving Mimikyu’s defenses a natural advantage. Its Ghost and Fairy typing leaves it weak to Ghost and Steel attacks, while it resists Dragon, Normal, and Bug damage and triple-resists Fighting. Its third-shield mechanic adds another hurdle for opponents.
Play Rough is Mimikyu’s only move that deals super-effective damage to Dragons. Appletun is the only Dragon that can sometimes beat it in the one-shield matchup, and that result depends on IVs. Wigglytuff is the only Fairy that reliably wins, thanks to its Normal typing and resistance to Ghost damage.
Mimikyu also ranks in PvPoke’s top 10 in the open 1,500 CP and 2,500 CP rankings. The 1,500 CP rankings and the 2,500 CP rankings place it among the leading picks. GoBattleLog’s battle-usage charts show it appearing across multiple leagues.

Shield count changes the best counters
Across the zero-, one-, and two-shield simulations, Wigglytuff, regular Forretress, and Melmetal are the only Pokémon that consistently beat Mimikyu. Other results depend on the shield count. Steelix wins with one or two shields but loses with none. Empoleon and Carbink win with no shields or two shields, then lose in the one-shield matchup. Corviknight wins with no shields or one shield but falls short when both sides have two.
Steel types offer more answers in the one-shield matchup. Regular and Shadow Steelix, Forretress, Galarian Stunfisk, Ferrothorn, Corviknight, and Melmetal can beat Mimikyu. Aron and Shadow Probopass also appear among the wins, while Aggron and Lairon can force a tie with Metal Sound.
Mimikyu’s moveset can complicate those matchups further. Choosing Thunder over Play Rough can flip results against Corviknight and Empoleon, while sometimes costing it wins against Dragons such as Zweilous, Hydreigon, or Turtonator.
Updated Steel moves add more matchup options
Melmetal now ranks No. 1 in PvPoke’s Fantasy Cup rankings. Double Iron Bash deals 15 more damage than before, and Dynamic Punch gives it Fighting coverage without Superpower’s self-debuff. The updated moveset adds wins against Togekiss, Corviknight, Forretress, Bronzong, and Shadow Magnezone. Melmetal still needs teammates that can handle Ground and Fire types.

Orthworm ranks No. 15 overall and No. 16 by stat product in Fantasy Cup. Mud Slap pressures opposing Steels despite lacking Same Type Attack Bonus, and it gives Orthworm a win against Turtonator. Iron Head’s 15-damage increase helps it beat Togekiss in the one-shield simulation and Togetic in the two-shield matchup. Its one-shield results show the Togekiss win.
Corviknight also benefits from the Iron Head boost. Iron Head paired with Payback adds wins against Azumarill, Togekiss, and Galarian Stunfisk. Air Cutter costs 40 energy instead of Iron Head’s 50, which can help Corviknight reach Payback sooner against Mimikyu. The faster move comes at the cost of other matchups.
Bronzong’s reworked Bulldoze adds simulated wins against Registeel, Empoleon, Alolan Sandslash, and Melmetal. It takes neutral damage from Dynamic Punch, but Mimikyu’s super-effective Ghost attacks remain a serious problem. Weather Ball (Water) is another coverage option against Fire and Ground types.
Tinkaton’s revised Bulldoze loses former wins against Empoleon, Jirachi, and Mimikyu, while adding wins against Excadrill and Aegislash. GoBattleLog’s battle chart also includes Tinkaton among Pokémon appearing in the Fantasy Cup meta.
