Pokémon GO will raise the trainer cap to level 80 on October 15, 2025, rebalanced XP, new rewards, and a Daily Adventure Egg

Niantic raises the Trainer level cap from 50 to 80 on October 15, 2025, with a rebalanced XP curve, new avatar items and storage rewards, a Daily Adventure Egg, and changes to Level-Up Research.

On October 15, 2025, Pokémon GO’s Trainer level cap increases from 50 to 80. The update rebalances XP across the leveling curve. It adds a range of free rewards, more storage for Pokémon, Items, Gifts, and Postcards, new avatar items, a new Daily Adventure Egg, and changes to Level-Up Research.

What changes right away

    • No player will drop in level when the new curve applies.
    • XP required for the next level may change for individual Trainers.
    • Anyone at level 23 or higher will gain at least one level after the rebalance.
    • Level-Up Research tasks for levels 41 to 50 are removed.
  • New Level-Up Research tasks will be added for levels 71 to 80. These are new tasks, distinct from the old level 42–50 tasks.
  • Trainers will receive the new avatar and storage rewards retroactively for prior levels.

Daily Adventure Egg

Starting at Trainer level 15, a free Daily Adventure Egg will be available to hatch a Pokémon and grant 10,000 XP. Key notes:

  • The egg is automatically placed in a dedicated Incubator when a Trainer logs in for the first time each day.
  • Trainers can hold and incubate only one Daily Adventure Egg at a time.
  • The egg hatches after walking 1 km. Adventure Sync should be enabled to record that distance when the app is not open.
  • The Daily Adventure Egg does not count toward the Trainer’s regular Egg storage.
  • The egg can hatch a First Partner Pokémon from Pokémon Red and Blue through Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Note: the Daily Adventure Egg’s Incubator can only be used for that egg.

New avatar items and where they appear

New avatar rewards start at level 25. Trainers will earn the following items as they level up:

  • Level 25: Poké Ball Cap
  • Level 30: Poké Ball Shoes
  • Level 35: Poké Ball Jacket
  • Level 40: Great Ball Cap
  • Level 45: Great Ball Shoes
  • Level 50: Great Ball Jacket
  • Level 55: Ultra Ball Cap
  • Level 60: Ultra Ball Shoes
  • Level 65: Ultra Ball Jacket
  • Level 71: Level 71 Shoes
  • Level 73: Level 73 Shade
  • Level 75: Level 75 Pants
  • Level 77: Level 77 Pose
  • Level 79: Level 79 Hairstyle (Short) and Level 79 Hairstyle (Long)
  • Level 80: Level 80 Jacket

Avatar items earned by reaching levels 40 through 50 before the update will not be available from leveling after October 15. Trainers will keep any avatar items or pose rewards they have already earned, including the Level 50 Jacket.

New leveling rewards and storage increases

Level-up rewards now include increases to storage for Pokémon, Items, Gifts, and Postcards. These storage increases are granted for free and can take a Trainer above previous storage caps.

Increased chance of Lucky Friends at level 70

Trainers at level 70 and higher will have an increased chance of becoming Lucky Friends with people they are Best Friends with.

New XP milestone requirements

The update changes how much XP is required to reach certain milestones. Important XP requirements are shown below.

Level XP Requirement
Level 10 48,000 XP
Level 20 258,000 XP
Level 30 1,083,000 XP
Level 40 3,953,000 XP
Level 50 12,753,000 XP
Level 60 34,353,000 XP
Level 70 85,853,000 XP
Level 80 203,353,000 XP

To reach levels 71 to 80, Trainers must both earn the required XP and complete new Level-Up Research tasks for each level.

Other details

  • Trainers will still begin earning Candy XL at Trainer level 31.
  • Trainers must remain level 40 to power Pokémon to level 40.
  • The Mewtwo encounter that previously unlocked at Trainer level 50 now unlocks at Trainer level 80. Trainers who already received the Mewtwo encounter at level 50 will receive only additional Candy at level 80 and not another Mewtwo encounter.

XP Celebration Ultra Box

The XP Celebration Ultra Box is available in the Pokémon GO Web Store for US$9.99 or equivalent in local currency. Each box contains 15 Lucky Eggs, one Super Incubator, one Incubator, five Incense, and two Lure Modules. There is a limit of three boxes per Trainer.

  • Trainer level cap increased from 50 to 80.
  • Full rebalance of the leveling XP curve and rewards.
  • New Level-Up Research tasks for levels 71 to 80 added.
  • Level-Up Research tasks for levels 41 to 50 removed.
  • New avatar items and additional storage rewards added to level progression.
  • Daily Adventure Egg added for Trainers level 15 and above; hatches after 1 km and grants 10,000 XP.
  • Lucky Friends chance increased for Trainers level 70 and above.
  • Mewtwo encounter moved from level 50 to level 80; previously earned encounters remain, with extra Candy granted at level 80.
  • XP Celebration Ultra Box available in the Web Store with purchase limit.
