Pokémon GO’s August 10–16, 2026 raid lineup features both Groudon and Mega Garchomp, giving Trainers two bosses to prepare for during the same week. Their counter pools overlap just enough to be tempting, but the strongest type plan is different for each one.
The good news is that the type chart does most of the work. Groudon is a pure Ground-type Pokémon, while Mega Garchomp combines Dragon and Ground typing. Ice is useful against both, with Mega Garchomp taking extra damage because both of its types are weak to Ice.
Both bosses appear in Pokémon GO’s August 10–16 raid lineup, so sorting out the right teams before using raid passes can save time and resources.

How to build a Groudon raid party
Groudon gives Trainers three useful counter lanes. Water attackers are a natural choice for a team built around consistent damage, while Grass attackers offer another strong answer to its Ground typing. Ice attackers also work well and become especially handy for anyone preparing for both raids.
Groudon resists Electric, Poison, and Rock attacks, so those types should stay out of the main party. There is no need to force one species into every slot. Pick the highest-level attackers with matching Fast and Charged moves, then mix Water, Grass, and Ice options according to the Pokémon already powered up in the collection. A full team of weaker counters is not automatically better than a focused party built around a Trainer’s best available attackers.
Specific names make the type plan easier to build. A top-counter ranking starts with Primal Kyogre using Waterfall and Origin Pulse, White Kyurem using Ice Fang and Ice Burn, and Mega Sceptile using Fury Cutter and Frenzy Plant. Shadow Kyogre with Waterfall and Origin Pulse, Mega Swampert with Water Gun and Hydro Cannon, Mega Venusaur with Vine Whip and Frenzy Plant, Zarude with Vine Whip and Power Whip, and Rillaboom with Razor Leaf and Frenzy Plant are additional weakness-matching options.
Groudon raid difficulty and catch CP
Groudon is a Tier 5 Legendary Raid Boss with a raid boss CP of 54,411. Two high-level Trainers can defeat it when their counters receive the right weather boosts. A safer group is three to six high-level players, while lower-level groups should bring seven to 20 Trainers.

Groudon’s possible moves
Groudon can use Mud Shot or Dragon Tail as its fast move. Its charged move can be Earthquake, Precipice Blades, Fire Punch, Fire Blast, or Solar Beam.
Solar Beam is the move to watch when the team relies heavily on Water attackers. Primal Kyogre remains the top-ranked counter, but Grass- and Ice-type options can give the party more variety when preparing for Groudon’s move pool.
Precipice Blades and Fire Punch are legacy moves that require an Elite TM or a special event.
Mega Garchomp’s biggest weakness
Ice should be the first choice against Mega Garchomp. Its Dragon and Ground typing makes Ice super effective against both parts of its defensive profile, giving Ice attackers a clear edge in this matchup.
Dragon and Fairy attackers are useful alternatives when the Ice roster is thin. They target Mega Garchomp’s Dragon typing, but Water and Grass attackers that work against Groudon should not be treated as the main answer here. Mega Garchomp also resists Electric, Fire, Poison, and Rock attacks, so those types should not form the foundation of the party. The two raid parties may share Ice attackers, yet they should not be copied as one universal team.
Mega Garchomp counters and raid difficulty
White Kyurem leads the counter lineup for Mega Garchomp. Mega Mewtwo Y, Mega Mewtwo X, Black Kyurem, and Mega Rayquaza are also powerful choices, while Shadow Mamoswine, Baxcalibur, Mamoswine, and Glaceon give Ice-focused teams more options.
Three to five high-level Trainers can defeat Mega Garchomp in favorable weather. Larger groups make the fight more forgiving, especially when the party includes several powerful Ice attackers.

Mega Garchomp’s possible moves
Mega Garchomp can use Dragon Tail or Mud Shot as its fast move. Its charged move can be Outrage, Breaking Swipe, Earthquake, Earth Power, Sand Tomb, or Fire Blast.
Earth Power is only obtainable through an Elite TM. Mega Garchomp’s possible moves cover Dragon, Ground, and Fire damage, so Trainers should expect different matchups from one raid to the next.
Garchomp encounter CP and Shiny availability
After the raid, the Garchomp encounter can appear at these CP ranges:
- 2,174–2,264 CP at level 20 without a weather boost
- 2,718–2,830 CP at level 25 with a Windy or Sunny weather boost
A Shiny Garchomp can also appear from the raid encounter. Mega Garchomp’s Shiny form gives the normally subtle Shiny design a much more noticeable change, so there is a very good reason to check every encounter before moving on.
One roster can cover both raids
Trainers trying to prepare with limited resources can start by building a strong Ice core. Those attackers contribute against Groudon and become the centerpiece of a Mega Garchomp party. Add Water or Grass attackers for Groudon, then keep Dragon or Fairy options ready for Mega Garchomp.
Individual counter rankings can change based on moves, levels, and the attackers available to each Trainer. The type matchups remain the steady part of the plan: Water, Grass, or Ice for Groudon, and Ice first with Dragon or Fairy support for Mega Garchomp.
